Teaching
Philosophy
In teaching
the Applied Visual Arts, I strive to give a theoretical
and historical knowledge base as well as the practical skills to
prepare students for a career in a very demanding
industry.
There are four
components must be balanced and integrated in the instruction of
graphics:
Visual, creating innovative and appealing designs;
Communication, practice of marketing theory through
verbal, written and visual means;
Technology, understanding and mastering digital
tools;
Concept; conveying the assigned message while developing
an individual artistic voice.

Multiple
teaching methods are used to reach a variety of learning
styles: readings, lectures, demonstrations, critiques,
lab work, internships and one-on-one tutoring. Real world examples
and professionalism are stressed, employing Service Learning
in which students work on actual projects for non-profit organizations
as practical experience.
With nearly
20 years experience as an illustrator and designer, I share significant
knowledge of the topic, as well as enthusiasm and passion
for my subject. I encourage and motivate every
student to reach their potential and achieve their goals.
